This Winter, Logan Square's Weekend Moves Up Milwaukee Avenue

October 8, 2026

On Sunday, October 25, the Logan Square Farmers Market will hold its last outdoor day of 2026 at 2620 N. Milwaukee Ave. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it ends the first season the market has spent in what its producer calls its permanent home. Every Sunday since May 10, 103 rotating farmers and food vendors have filled the rebuilt Milwaukee plaza and part of Logan Boulevard between Kedzie and Milwaukee. Live music played by the monument.

The market comes back on Saturday, November 28. It returns on a different day, at a different address and on a shorter schedule, about two hundred street numbers north on the same avenue. The 2700 and 2800 blocks of Milwaukee are where the winter market sets up, and they also picked up two new food tenants in late summer. Logan Square's cold-weather weekend now has a new center, and it was already being built before the plaza season ended.

A Plaza Season That Took 20 Years to Arrive

This was a milestone year for the market. Its home for 18 years was a few blocks down Logan Boulevard. It then spent two years on Kedzie Boulevard while the traffic-circle project was under construction. In April, Nilda Esparza, the market producer and Logan Square Chamber of Commerce director, called the new plaza "our forever home."

The move came with changes. The 2026 layout has 24 fewer booths than in past years because the space is tighter. It includes 44 weekly farmers, plus 14 vintage vendors at La Placita in front of Reno, Same Day Cafe and other Kedzie businesses. The Chamber estimated weekly attendance at 12,000 to 15,000 people. The Chicago Reader has named the market the city's best seven years in a row. Mercaditos, the craft market at Paseo Prairie Garden, 2612 N. Kedzie Blvd., is scheduled for its last 2026 Sunday on October 11.

If you're double-checking before the final Sunday, use the market's own address. The City of Chicago's 2026 market schedule still lists 2400 N. Kedzie Blvd. and a 9 a.m. start, which is left over from the construction years. The market's site lists 2620 N. Milwaukee and 8:30 a.m.

How the Two Seasons Compare

Outdoor season Indoor season
Day Sundays Saturdays
Hours 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location 2620 N. Milwaukee Ave., the plaza and Logan Boulevard 2800 N. Milwaukee Ave., first floor
2026 dates May 10 to Oct. 25 Starts Nov. 28 and runs into spring 2027

The switch from Sunday to Saturday is easy to miss. A Sunday routine built over 25 outdoor weeks has to move to the other weekend day. The indoor hours are also an hour and a half shorter on the early end and an hour shorter at close. The Chamber's own listings give different end dates for the winter series, one in late March and one in late April, so check the date closer to spring.

The indoor address isn't new. The Chamber's 2025-26 winter listings name the venue at 2800 N. Milwaukee as Avondale Collective, with market dates in December 2025 and March 2026.

The Block the Winter Market Lands On

The 2700 and 2800 blocks of Milwaukee look different from a year ago. Two new tenants opened there in late summer, within a few doors of each other.

Mate & Company opened at 2778 N. Milwaukee Ave. It's an Argentine mate-and-coffee cafe, open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Block Club Chicago's August 31 report. Chengdu Impression took over 2770 N. Milwaukee, the former Chiya Chai space, which closed in May. Block Club puts the opening in August.

Mate & Company's hours fit the indoor market well. It opens an hour before the market's 10 a.m. start and stays open long after the 2 p.m. close. Chengdu Impression gives the block a sit-down lunch option a few doors from the market entrance. Last winter, a Saturday at Avondale Collective had neither of these neighbors.

All Star Press, at 2775 N. Milwaukee Ave., is across the same stretch. It's also on this year's Open House Chicago list for Logan Square.

California Avenue Opened Its Fall Rooms Early

The second fall cluster is a few blocks west. It doesn't depend on the market calendar, and that matters during the weeks when there's no market.

Logan Inn opened on Friday, September 11, at 2001 N. California Ave. It's a cafe and cocktail bar on the ground floor of a 28-room boutique hotel. Mornings bring coffee from San Francisco's Graffeo Coffee and pastries from Meg Galus of Good Ambler. Later in the day there are sandwiches such as pistachio mortadella with pesto and burrata on focaccia, plus a seasonal panzanella. At night it turns into a classic cocktail bar focused on martini riffs. It's run by Kiva Wenig, Jonathan Rodriguez and Taylor Lauder, whose backgrounds include Easy Does It, Double Fun, Lazy Bird and Moneygun.

Farther north on the same avenue, Hooligan opened on Thursday, October 1, at 2528 N. California Ave. That's the former Good Fortune space, which had sat waiting since early 2020. Chef Christian Hunter, a 2023 Michelin Young Chef Award winner for his work at Atelier, and restaurateur Tyrone Redic Jr. first planned Hooligan for Time Out Market in Fulton Market. Then the food hall announced in January that it was closing.

The Logan Square version is a 50-seat, neo-Midwestern bistro in 2,000 square feet. On the menu:

  • Vidalia à la vinaigrette, made with roasted vidalia and candy onions, garlic, shallots and leeks
  • Chicken liver parfait with hot water cornbread and pimento cheese
  • Roasted half chicken from Crazy Clucker Farms with pommes grand-mère
  • A Kentucky caviar service of paddlefish caviar from near Hunter's hometown, served with scrambled eggs and sourdough chips
  • A $199 four-course menu for two that starts with oysters

Beverage manager Aaron Michael Wells's list includes the Burnt Harvest, a bourbon cocktail with grits, apple brandy and chicory. There are also a dozen wines by the glass and two spirit-free cocktails.

The Weekends in Between

These two clusters will carry Logan Square's weekends for the next stretch of the calendar. The outdoor market ends October 25 and the indoor market starts November 28. That leaves four full weekends with no market at all: October 31 to November 1, November 7 and 8, November 14 and 15, and November 21 and 22. The last of those is the weekend before Thanksgiving.

October is busier before the market closes:

  1. October 17 and 18: Open House Chicago. The Logan Square sites are Sulzen Fine Art Studio at 2720 W. St. Georges Ct., The Weaving Mill and Westtown Center at 1801 N. Spaulding Ave., and All Star Press at 2775 N. Milwaukee Ave.
  2. October 24: Unity Park Pumpkin Fest, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2636 N. Kimball Ave. It includes a costume parade, pumpkin decorating and a Día de los Muertos ofrenda.
  3. October 25: The final outdoor market Sunday on the plaza.

The Pumpkin Fest and the final market fall on back-to-back days, so the last weekend of October has something on both Saturday and Sunday.

Starting November 1, the new storefronts carry the weekends. Mornings can start at Logan Inn's Graffeo bar or Mate & Company's counter. Dinner can be at Hooligan or Chengdu Impression. Both pairings straddle the area between the plaza and the winter market. When Saturdays at 2800 N. Milwaukee start up again, the walk from Mate & Company's door to the market's first-floor entrance is a few storefronts long.

If you own near the plaza or along the 2700 and 2800 blocks of Milwaukee, a year-round market calendar and a new run of storefronts both affect how your block shows to buyers.
