With the Ballpark Plaza Fenced Off, Lakeview's Halloween Runs on Halsted From 11 a.m.

October 22, 2026

Lakeview's biggest public space is closed this Halloween. Gallagher Way has been shut to the public since Monday so crews can build the Christkindlmarket, and it stays closed through Saturday, October 31. That same Saturday, the Northalsted Business Alliance opens a Halsted Street festival at 11 a.m., eight hours before the 7 p.m. Haunted Halsted Halloween Parade. The parade is marking its 30th anniversary, and this is the first year it comes with a full daytime festival.

So from Halloween until the market opens, Lakeview's gathering place is Halsted Street and the Lakeview East business strips. The plaza at Clark and Addison comes back on November 20, earlier than last year, and dressed for a different holiday.

Clark and Addison Went Quiet Early

Most years, the area around Wrigley Field still has some October energy. Not this year. The Cubs' season ended on September 30, when the San Diego Padres won 4–1 to sweep the National League Wild Card Series, as MLB.com reported.

Gallagher Way held one more fall event, a free Pumpkin Party last Saturday, October 24. Then the plaza closed for the build-out. Gallagher Way's event calendar lists the park as "closed to the general public" from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day from October 26 through October 31. If you're planning a Halloween photo by the ballpark this weekend, you'll be shooting from the sidewalk.

The next change on that stretch of Clark is further off. Block Club Chicago reported in July that Portillo's plans a Wrigleyville location at 3519 N. Clark St., with a walk-up window and a small dining room. The company expects to open in 2027.

Halsted Now Runs From Morning to Night

Last year, Northalsted listed Haunted Halsted as a 6:30 to 10 p.m. event. This year the organizer's event page runs it from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. That's an eleven-hour day where last year's was three and a half hours, and the new hours are mostly daytime and built for families.

From 11 a.m., Halsted becomes a pedestrian-only block party from Aldine to Brompton. The fest includes more than 50 vendor booths, trick-or-treating at more than 25 Halsted Street businesses, a kids zone with Halloween crafts and inflatables, a 360-degree photo booth, live local music, and beer, spirits and fall toddies for guests 21 and over. Admission is free.

Time What happens Where
11:00 a.m. Haunted Halsted Fest opens 3300–3526 N. Halsted
2:00 p.m. Day-of costume registration opens Tent at 3211 N. Halsted, east side of the street
6:00 p.m. Street cleared for the parade; fest crowd moves behind barricades Halsted, Aldine to Brompton
7:00 p.m. Parade steps off Halsted and Belmont
8:00 p.m. Parade ends; costume contest and post-parade party Halsted and Brompton; NoHa lot at 3514 N. Halsted
10:00 p.m. Event ends

The 6 p.m. clearing matters if you've staked out a spot. Fest-goers have to move to the sidewalks behind the barricades, and the organizer suggests using that hour to visit vendors and Halsted businesses before the parade.

The parade has more than 300 costumed participants. Groups include the Lakeside Pride Marching Band, the Chicago Thriller flash mob, the Chicago Spirit Brigade pep squad, the Windy City Rollers and decorated vehicles from the Windy City Jeep Club. Chicago Full Moon Jam closes it with a fire performance. The costume contest awards $4,000 across five categories: Character, Creative, Scary, Group, and Youth for kids under 13. Each category pays $500, $200 and $100 for the top three. Entering costs $5. Watching is free and open to all ages. Contestants must be present to win, and the parade goes on in rain or snow.

What a Daytime Festival Means for Your Car

Under the old evening schedule, the street closed for a few hours. This year it closes for most of the day, and the organizer's notices cover a wider area than the parade route.

  • Parking: From 7 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday, no parking on Halsted between Belmont and Addison. The same applies to Brompton, Cornelia, Newport, Roscoe, Buckingham, Aldine and Melrose, up to the nearest alley. The page warns that violators will be towed.
  • Traffic: From 10:30 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday, no vehicles on that same stretch of Halsted or those side streets.
  • Address ranges listed include: Halsted from 3200 to 3600 N., Melrose from 720 to 758 W., Aldine from 800 to 830 W., Buckingham from 720 to 820 W., and Roscoe from 732 to 820 W.

If your car is usually parked on one of those blocks, move it Friday night. The no-parking window starts three and a half hours before the first vendor opens.

Two Trick-or-Treat Routes, Same Three Hours

Lakeview East is adding its own daytime crowd on the same Saturday. The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce's Little Monster's Crawl runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with businesses along Broadway, Belmont and Clark handing out treats in a neighborhood-wide trick-or-treat. The chamber says a map of participating businesses is coming.

That puts two business-hosted trick-or-treat routes in the same late-morning window, a short walk apart. Families can start with the Lakeview East crawl, cross over to the Halsted kids zone before 2 p.m., and head home before the parade crowd arrives. Families who want the evening can start on Halsted after lunch and stay for the 7 p.m. step-off.

Southport ran its own version earlier in the week. Trick or Treat on Southport took place Monday, October 26, on Southport between Roscoe and Grace, presented by Friends of Lakeview.

The Plaza Comes Back November 20, Earlier and Longer

Once the build-out finishes, Gallagher Way opens a holiday season that starts sooner and runs later than last year's. Christkindlmarket Wrigleyville opens at 3635 N. Clark St. on Friday, November 20, and runs through December 31. Gallagher Way's FAQ listed Winterland's 2025 season as November 23 through December 31, so this year's opening is three days earlier.

The end date is what sets the Wrigleyville market apart. Southport Corridor News reported that the Daley Plaza and Aurora RiverEdge Park markets both close on Christmas Eve. That gives the North Side market an extra week after Christmas. The same report counts 28 local and international vendors and notes that 2026 is the 30th anniversary of Christkindlmarket Chicago, which opened at Daley Plaza in 1996. That makes Lakeview the host of two 30th anniversaries three weeks apart, one on Halsted and one beside the ballpark.

Regular market hours are Monday through Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Special hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on December 21–23 and 28–30. The market is closed on Christmas Day.

The market is part of Winterland at Gallagher Way, which also returns November 20. Gallagher Way's listing says more details are coming. Southport Corridor News expects the ice rink to return, but no 2026 rink dates have been posted. The tree lighting, Santa's Workshop and holiday movies it describes were features of past seasons.

The Three Weeks Between

After Saturday, Lakeview's calendar is quieter. These dates are already set:

  1. November 1 through December 21: The Lakeview East Chamber's Giver's Gift returns for its 29th year. Save receipts from shopping in the neighborhood and turn them in for a $50 Lakeview East Gift Card. Qualifying details are on the chamber's page.
  2. Saturday, November 14, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber hosts an open house on the Chicago River Trail extension, meant to help shape a future route filling the gap between Belmont and Diversey. The calendar lists the location as 1409 W. Addison St.
  3. Friday, November 20: Gallagher Way reopens with Winterland and Christkindlmarket Wrigleyville.

Giver's Gift starts the day after Halloween, so receipts from Lakeview East shopping count from Sunday morning, three weeks before the market opens.
